British sports car manufacturer Morgan has been building exclusive traditional sports car for exclusive customers from centuries but in the history of Morgan they have rarely built eye catchy car like Morgan Midsummer. For Morgan Midsummer the Morgan Motors have collaborated with renowned Mahindra – owned Italian design power house Pininfarina.
Morgan Midsummer: A Pininfarina-Designed Master Piece
Pininfarina Morgan Midsummer is built on Morgan Plus Six chassis, the Midsummer is limited edition 2 seater open top master piece and is only limited to 50 units which are already sold to the exclusive clients of Morgan. The car is built to celebrate the 200 years of coach building expertise and is named after Midsummer Hill, a portion of Malvern Hill tower of the Morgan Pickersleigh Road Factory where the company is building cars since 1914 and also indicating the heights of the summer a perfect time to drive a roadster like this.
According to the customer specification the car would start from 200,000 Pound (2.11 crore). The car design is inspired from the elegance and style of 1930 and 40s racing cars of Morgan. The limited edition cars perfectly resemblance the classic Morgan silhouette and blends perfectly with Pininfarina’s iconic design mastery.
The Midsummer is similar to the Plus Six, the exterior bodywork is all new and classy the car elongated tail and the much more chiselled front end look make the car classier and eye catchy. Morgan claim that the hand – formed aluminium panels of the car takes 250 hours to prepare and Pininfarina has designed piano key inspired louvres on the bonnet and redone the front wings to enhance the aerodynamics of the car.
The elongated rear deck enhances the look of the car, the barchetta tail adds the glory to the car and it perfectly blends with the aerodynamics of the car features resembling with some of the greatest car of Pininfarinas’ cars. The Morgan Midsummer weigh under 1000 kg forged with 19 – inch wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres which further enhances the classy look of the car.
The Morgan Midsummer Pininfarina uses the teak wood in the upper parts of the doors and also in the exterior part of the car in the form of motor boat style teak sections that surround the two seat cockpit of the car. These layers of woods are formed from laminated layers of the teak, and the wooden touch on the top of the dashboard is made from 126 separate sections. The wooden components of the car take 3 hours to create Morgan also claim that the car also consist of “enhanced” Sennheiser audio system, although it will be hard to hear and enjoy the music on the move due to the lack of the windshield.
Morgan Midsummer is built with the firms latest CX- Generation bonded platform powering with the BMW turbocharged inline six cylinder engine with eight automatic transmission. The BMW turbocharged engine produces 335bhp and 369 pound feet of torque and is expected to match the performance 0 – 100kph in 4.2 sec with the top speed of 267kph.
The production of Morgan Midsummer is schedule to start later this year and will continue till 2025 and the car will be produced at Pickersgill Road Factory where all the company products are made since 1914. Morgan and Pininfarina have joined the hand together to design the classy Morgan Midsummer Pininfarina with two centuries of experience to build this beautiful car. The Midsummer will be the first production car in the world to have the Pininfarina Furiosa badge that will reflect how especial this Midsummer bespoke is – truly a masterpiece.
